5 Reasons You Should Have Started Using Eye Cream Yesterday

It’s no secret that one of my favorite skincare products is eye cream, but do you really need one? How important are eye creams in your daily skincare routine? Well if you’re not convinced by the end of this post that you should have started using an eye cream yesterday, then my beauty obsessed self has failed!

Eye creams have some big promises, but do they really live up to the claims? I’ll let you know which ingredients to look for so you can ensure the product lives up to its promises.

5 Reasons Why You Need Eye Cream in Your Skincare Routine

1). Moisturizing

Most people avoid the eye area with their face creams, which leaves this skin with no extra moisture. The skin around your eye area needs love too! Especially if you experience dryness around your under eyes or lids, it’s important you invest in an eye cream. Some people experience some flaking on the eye lids. This means you need to be adding an eye cream for sensitive skin formulated for use around the eye area (including the lids) to your routine.

2). Delicate Skin

So your eye area needs moisture too, so why can’t you just use an all over face cream? While this does help, face creams really don’t take the place of a specially formulated eye cream. The skin around your eyes is especially delicate, one of the most sensitive areas on your entire body! Which means you need to take extra special care of it starting with the cream you use. Invest in an eye cream, your skin will thank you later in life.

3). Anti Aging

We all wait to maintain vibrant, healthy skin and the best way is to take care of it! The skin on your face (especially the eye area) can be one of the first places to show signs of aging. You should focus on eye creams with “Vitamin C, peptides, and retinol to boost collagen production. Ceramide and hyaluronic acid also help; these are moisturizers that help prevent water loss in the skin and improve elasticity” (WebMD).

4). Dark Circles / Puffiness

Some of the biggest concerns with the skin around your eyes are dark circles and puffiness. What’s the easiest way to combat these skin troubles?… eye cream! (I hope you can sense a theme to this post) Sure, makeup and cold compresses can help, but the easiest way is to treat your skin concerns. There are lots of specially formulated eye creams at both the drugstore and department stores to treat these conditions, which sometime arise from stress or lack of sleep, but can also just be a person’s everyday skin tone.

5). Best for Your Makeup

Lastly, if you do wear makeup often, your next pick up at the drugstore needs to be an eye cream. Eye makeup and under eye concealer can put your eyes through more than they’re used to from the application, to the wear, and the removal. You need to rehydrate your eye area even more so. They also serve for a great base to your makeup routine to ensure your makeup lasts longer and wears better.

Eye Cream Recommendations

Yes To Blueberries Eye Firming Treatment $15

My personal drugstore favorite is the Yes To Blueberries anti-aging eye cream. I like creamier formulas that absorb quickly into the skin, and that type of formula is hard to find in the drugstore. However, this product rivals any high end formulation! It’s a natural brand without parabens which is an added bonus.

According to Yes To, “Yes to Blueberries Eye Firming Treatment is a powerful way to say Yes to gorgeous, youthful peepers, and can be used in the morning (along with Daily Repairing Moisturizer), or before you go to bed (along with Deep Wrinkle Night Cream). The formula blends paracress flower to reduce fine lines, anti-oxident rich blueberries and skin-softening beeswax. Get ready to wink and be carded!”

DERMAdoctor Wrinkle Revenge Rescue & Protect Eye Balm $50

This eye cream is pictured above, and my most recently used up eye cream. I was very happy with the formula and how it absorbed onto my skin. I personally haven’t developed wrinkles along my eye area, but this diminishes any fine lines I may have forming around the eye area. It’s a great relief at the end of the day before bed time, very nourishing. It’s also recommended for sensitive skin.

According to DERMAdoctor, “Super hydrating eye balm enriched with peptides, caffeine, hyaluronic acid and antioxidants, approved for use on delicate upper eyelids, under eye area and crow’s feet region.”

Perricone MD Hypoallergenic Firming Eye Cream $65

This is my most expensive recommendation, but my absolute favorite! This product is definitely a splurge, but by far – the best eye cream I’ve ever used. It’s one of their best sellers. It’s perfect for sensitive skin.

According to Perricone, “This multi-tasking eye treatment and cream in one is formulated with Olive Polyphenols and four proprietary Neuropeptides to address fine lines, loss of firmness, visible crow’s feet, dryness and dark circles. It is ideal if your skin is dry or sensitive; and gentle enough to be used post-cosmetic procedure. Hypoallergenic Firming Eye Cream is ideal for layering over any Perricone MD eye treatment for additional hydration.”
