Lucky FABB West 2014 Experience

This weekend I was lucky enough (no pun intended 😉 ) to be invited to Lucky FABB in LA at the SLS Beverly Hills Hotel! This is a national conference for fashion and beauty bloggers. I’m a contributor on the Lucky FABB network, which is how I found out about the opportunity.

During the conference, I got to network with lots of other bloggers, learn to be a better blog, and hear industry experts speak. It was so nice to be surrounded by like-minded individuals who share a similar passion of mine.

Continue reading to see what I learned, what I wore, and who I saw!

There was a tremendous amount of information at the conference, but I left FABB with several key takeaways:

  • The future of blogging is mobile.
  • You can’t be a people pleaser as a blogger and cater to everyone.
  • “Activation is the new black” – there is an art and science to every blog, the science aspect is how you activate your brand.
  • #GirlBoss
  • Be positive, but realistic.
  • The ultimate form of leadership is empowering other women.
  • You have to have a sense of humor about fashion – everyone will look back at themselves in 10 years and laugh.
  • Blogs fit the discovery phase of online shopping.
  • Organic search results are key! They represent 94% of Google clicks.
  • Google Analytics, Google Analytics, Google Analytics *music to my market research ears*
  • You are very powerful behind the keyboard.

Sophia actually has a book coming out soon, Girl Boss, which I am very excited about! I love the Nasty Gal clothing brand, and it was interesting to hear how she got her start. I found out her favorite people to follow on Instagram are Snoop Dogg and Lena Dunham. She also enjoys the Wow Facts of Life Twitter account.

Event #6 Brand Experiences

There were lots of brands networking with the bloggers and telling us about their new offerings. Some of the experiences included P&G beauty booths, Caravelle New York, Pressed Juicery, Poshmark, Lucky Breaks Live, SimpleHuman, The Brave Collection, and Wendy’s new salad collections.

Nicole was so inspiring to listen to! I walked away from the conference loving her even more. I learned all about her new garden and how she gardens in a Chanel fanny pack… “Fanny packs are DOPE” as she would say. She relayed that you have to have a sense of humor about fashion and the ultimate form of leadership is empowering other women. She also joked how she wanted to open a restaurant called, Nicki Fresh with 90s hip hop and fresh veggies from her garden — I’d be first in line!

Event #8: Lunch + Brand Experiences

In Next Level Style, I got to hear tips and tricks from Celebrity Stylist Heidi Bivens, Supermodel Karolina Kurkova, and Song of Style Founder Aimee Song. I learned Karolina’s style must have’s are sneakers, classic pumps, a white button down, and a great cross body bag. Aimee’s must have is an awesome biker jacket!

I also got to meet my favorite YouTuber, Ingrid Nilsen of Miss Glamorazzi! I felt like such a fan girl, but learned so much from her on how to shoot the best videos.

Event #10: A Style Conversation with Supermodel, Coco Rocha

She stated “there are 2 things I don’t believe in: trends and selfies” (!!) haha. She believes bloggers should feel very empowered, and we have a great deal of power behind our keyboards. Eva Chen filled us in about her favorite trends of the moment including crop tops and frumpy shoes.

Stay Tuned for Day 2 of my experience along with a video of what I got in my FABB gift bag! 🙂
