For the first installment of my lipstick beauty series, I decided to try out the latest lip paint craze. The trend began with the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tars and manifested its way into more affordable brands as well.
I must say… I found the perfect dupe for the OCC Lip Tar in the J.Cat Beauty Wonder Lip Paint, and find myself hooked on lip paint! While, I don’t think it’s for everyday wear, it’s very fun to dress up or diversify your look.
These lip paints can be tricky to work with, and are very bold on the lip (more so than they look in the packaging). I find a small lip or eye brush works best to apply it, just be sure to clean it afterwards. I also find that the pigments are a bit intense on their own and slide all over your lips. What’s worked best for me is to apply a small amount (a little goes a long way!) with a brush and blot lightly with a tissue. Then, you can build or intensity repeating the same steps to achieve your desired look.
I picked up the J.Cat Beauty Wonder Lip Paint for only $2! Online it retails for $5, but that still beats the OCC Lip Tars at high-end beauty outlets like for Sephora, retailing for $18. These come in a variety of shades ranging from pink to blue! I picked up the J.Cat “WLP107” variety, which is a good dupe for the OCC Lip in “Divine.”
Stay Tuned for the next Lipstick Diaries installment!
